A passenger aboard the MSC Virtuosa cruise ship has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 60-year-old man. The incident occurred shortly after the ship departed Southampton for a two-night cruise, with many guests celebrating bachelor and bachelorette parties, creating a lively atmosphere.
At approximately 8:30 PM, an altercation broke out between two passengers, both reportedly part of the same group, resulting in one man’s death at the scene. The ship’s crew promptly informed authorities, leading to the arrest of a 57-year-old man. A murder investigation is currently underway, with the cruise line cooperating fully with law enforcement.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Gillooly reassured the public that this incident appears isolated and expressed gratitude to the crew for their assistance. He has urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation progresses.
Despite the tragic event, the MSC Virtuosa continued its voyage, returning from Bruges on Monday morning, where police awaited the ship’s arrival at its home port.
