Maritime traffic on the Algeciras–Tanger Med route has slowly resumed following a suspension caused by adverse weather, as reported by Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP). Since the route’s reopening, approximately a dozen vessels have made their way to the Tanger Med port complex to help alleviate the backlog of passengers and vehicles.
The Algeciras Bay Port Authority (APBA) indicated that operations remain contingent on weather conditions. Currently, ferry services are not operating at full capacity, necessitating adjustments to schedules and crossing frequencies by shipping companies. Meanwhile, the ferry link between Tarifa and Tangier City is completely suspended, with departures from Tarifa canceled until maritime conditions improve.
Cargo operations at the Algeciras port have partially resumed, with container terminals reopening at 5 a.m. local time on Friday, and six vessels currently docked. However, access for international freight trucks to the port area remains restricted. The APBA noted that a complete return to normal maritime connections with Moroccan ports hinges on the weather conditions in the Strait of Gibraltar in the hours ahead.
