On February 18, 2026, the MS Island Sky, flagged from The Bahamas, arrived at New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) as the second cruise ship of the season. The vessel, operated by Sweden’s Salen Shipmanagement AB, docked at 7:30 AM after traveling from Mormugao, and departed at 1:00 PM. It carried 95 passengers and 70 crew members and was welcomed with traditional ceremonies, including offerings from the AYUSH meditation center, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a Yakshagana-themed selfie stand provided by the Ministry of Tourism.
Passengers had the opportunity to explore Mangaluru’s attractions through guided tours, visiting notable sites such as the Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara Temple, St. Aloysius Chapel, local markets, and the Kalbavi Cashew Factory. This immersive experience allowed visitors to engage with both the cultural and industrial aspects of the region. Streamlined immigration processes contributed to a more efficient and enjoyable visit, reducing wait times for disembarkation.
The arrival of the MS Island Sky highlights NMPA’s commitment to establishing Mangaluru as a prominent cruise destination on India’s west coast. This initiative not only enhances the local tourism infrastructure but also stimulates the regional economy as more cruise calls are anticipated, reflecting a positive trend in post-pandemic recovery.
