Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) at Indira Dock, a significant advancement for India’s maritime and tourism sectors. Part of the Cruise Bharat Mission, this modern facility is set to enhance the country’s cruise tourism landscape.
Constructed at a cost of ₹556 crore, MICT is the largest cruise terminal in India, spanning 415,000 square feet. It boasts the capacity to accommodate five ships simultaneously and is designed to manage up to one million passengers each year.
The terminal features a striking combination of contemporary design and Mumbai’s maritime heritage, highlighted by a wavy ceiling, rose-gold accents, and various cultural displays to enrich the travel experience. It also includes 72 immigration and check-in counters within a spacious area of 207,000 square feet, along with parking for over 300 vehicles.
The first ship to dock at MICT will be the Cordelia Empress on September 22, heading to Goa and Lakshadweep. Officials regard MICT as a vital component of the Cruise Bharat Mission, aiming to position India as a leading global cruise hub and significantly increase passenger numbers by 2029.
