All 267 individuals aboard the South Korean ferry Queen Jenuvia 2 were rescued after the vessel ran aground near Jindo. The incident, which resulted in 27 minor injuries, echoes the tragic Sewol ferry disaster of 2014, where 300 lives were lost. Most passengers will be transported to Mokpo, while 21 crew members remain on the ship.

Initial investigations suggest a possible navigational error by the captain or crew. The Coast Guard, led by Commissioner General Kim Yong-jin, is conducting a thorough inquiry. President Lee Jae Myung, currently in the Middle East, has requested real-time updates on the rescue operation.

The 26,000-ton ferry was en route from Jeju Island to Mokpo when it struck a rocky island. Passengers reported a loud bang that caused panic. One passenger, Kim Namhyun, recalled the Sewol disaster, emphasizing the importance of staying calm and following safety protocols.

Despite the situation, the ferry remained upright, and weather conditions were favorable. The Sewol tragedy, which involved many schoolchildren, remains a painful memory for South Korea, highlighting the critical need for maritime safety.
