The Andhra Pradesh government has established Port Proximal Area Development Authorities (PPADAs) for each seaport under the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB). This initiative aims to enhance infrastructure planning and coordinated development around the state’s coastal hubs. The decision, formalized in G.O. MS No.15 on October 30, aligns with the APMB Act, 2018.
Each PPADA will manage development activities within a 10-kilometre inland zone from port limits, adhering to defined exclusivity boundaries specified in concession agreements. The authority will be chaired by the APMB Chairman, with the Port Officer as Member Convener. Key stakeholders include the APMB CEO, District Collectors, and various engineering and municipal officials.
PPADAs are tasked with creating master plans for their designated areas, which will require state government approval. These plans will serve as a framework for future industrial and infrastructural growth alongside Andhra Pradesh’s maritime access points. Local planning authorities must also secure PPADA approval for any projects inconsistent with these plans, ensuring a cohesive approach to coastal development.
This move signifies a commitment to integrated coastal development, facilitating port-led growth through coordinated planning and regulatory oversight across rapidly developing maritime zones in Andhra Pradesh.
