Chowgule Shipbuilders, based in Goa, marked a pivotal moment in Indian shipbuilding with the initiation of India’s first air cushion vehicle (ACV) at their Rassaim Yard. This project, commissioned by the Ministry of Defense for the Indian Coast Guard at a value of GBP 387.44 billion, represents a significant advancement in India’s indigenous defense production capabilities and coastal security infrastructure.

The launch event featured General Inspector Sudhir Sahni alongside other senior officials from the Indian Coast Guard and key representatives from Chowgule, including Executive Director Arjun Chowgule. This innovative hovercraft, developed through collaboration with Griffon HoverWorks in the UK, underscores the growing expertise of India’s defense sector in high-tech solutions.

Constructed using an advanced aluminum system, the project highlights Chowgule’s commitment to precision and technological innovation. This initiative reflects India’s increasing focus on self-reliance in defense production and aligns with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aiming to bolster maritime innovation and capabilities in the region. The success of this venture marks a significant stride in the Indian maritime and defense landscape.
