On August 7, 2025, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister of State Shantanu Thakur inaugurated the “IT Conclave 2025 – Leveraging Technology in Maritime” in New Delhi. This event, organized by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) in collaboration with the Company of Master Mariners of India (CMMI), aimed to highlight digital initiatives that enhance India’s maritime sector.
Key initiatives launched included the revamped DGS website, compliant with GIGW 3.0 standards, and the e-Samudra platform, which integrates over 60 maritime services. This cloud-native platform streamlines processes such as vessel chartering approvals and financial assistance for shipbuilders. Additionally, a digital roadmap booklet outlining technology interventions in the maritime sector was released.
The conclave aligns with the Government of India’s vision under “Digital India” and “Maritime India Vision 2030,” aiming to position India as a global maritime leader. Other notable digital interventions include an AI-based examination system for seafarer certification and Learning Management Systems (LMS) to enhance training standards. Overall, these initiatives aim to create a secure, efficient, and technologically advanced maritime ecosystem by 2030.
