The state-owned shipbuilder, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), has recently delivered a new electric catamaran ferry to the Ministry of Transport in West Bengal, India. The catamaran, named “Earth” or “Wave,” features an aluminum hull and a GRP superstructure. It spans 24 meters in length and boasts an air-conditioned cabin capable of accommodating up to 150 passengers. The vessel is powered by a liquid-cooled 246 kWh battery, which drives two 50 kW motors connected to propellers, allowing it to reach a top speed of 10 knots. The battery can be charged through either a shore connection or a set of onboard PV modules with a combined output of 18 kWh.
