The Global Maritime Forum has officially joined the Green Ports and Shipping Network, a newly launched initiative aimed at promoting the shift to low- and zero-carbon marine fuels in India. This network was introduced at the recent 3rd Green Hydrogen India Symposium held in New Delhi. It unites various stakeholders, including ports, shipping companies, regulators, technology providers, financiers, and non-profit organizations, all working together within the maritime sector.

The primary objective of the network is to develop actionable strategies for implementing green hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol as the next-generation fuels for shipping. Additionally, it aims to establish the necessary infrastructure to facilitate their widespread adoption. Members of the network will engage in pilot projects, conduct feasibility studies, and advocate for supportive governmental policies while also building capacity and sharing knowledge among participants.

Johannah Christensen, CEO of the Global Maritime Forum, emphasized India’s significant potential as a maritime nation and a possible leader in the production and distribution of low- and zero-carbon shipping fuels. By connecting local stakeholders with international organizations focused on decarbonizing shipping, the Green Ports and Shipping Network aims to catalyze pioneering projects and enhance India’s role in the maritime energy transition.

This initiative is spearheaded by the Green Hydrogen Association (GH2 India), a collaborative platform committed to accelerating the development and implementation of green hydrogen solutions across the country.
