Goa Shipyard Launches ICGS Amulya to Boost Indian Coast Guard Capabilities

On December 2, 2025, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) officially handed over the ICGS Amulya, the third Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) in a planned series of eight, as part of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. This transfer marks a significant step forward in enhancing the country’s maritime security framework. The ceremony took place at GSL’s Vasco shipyard, attended by key officials, including GSL CMD Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay and Indian Coast Guard representatives, with Commanding Officer Comdt (JG) Anupam Singh accepting the vessel on behalf of the Coast Guard.

The ICGS Amulya boasts impressive specifications, measuring 51.43 meters in length and 8 meters in breadth, with a displacement of 330 tonnes and a draught of 2.5 meters. It is powered by twin marine diesel engines and can reach speeds exceeding 27 knots, with a range of 1,500 nautical miles. The vessel is equipped with an Integrated Machinery Control System (IMCS), enhancing its operational efficiency for extended missions.

Engineered for diverse mission roles, the ICGS Amulya will conduct fisheries protection, EEZ surveillance, anti-smuggling and anti-piracy operations, coastal security patrols, and search-and-rescue missions. This delivery highlights GSL’s growing capacity in indigenous shipbuilding, significantly boosting the Indian Coast Guard’s operational capabilities along the nation’s coastline.

As GSL continues to expand its expertise and production capabilities, it plays a crucial role in supporting India’s blue economy goals and strengthening national maritime security in alignment with the Make in India initiative.
