The Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) has received state approval for six new policies aimed at enhancing the maritime ecosystem in Gujarat. Details of these regulations will be revealed soon. The new framework emphasizes shipbuilding and repair, land management, reclamation, and a Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) for the Gulf of Khambhat. Additional regulations will focus on implementing the Gujarat Inland Vessels Act, targeting vessels of various categories, including leisure crafts.
Aimed at fostering shipyard development, the new shipbuilding and repair policy encourages infrastructure for marine component manufacturing and repair facilities. The land management policy consolidates existing guidelines governing GMB-controlled lands, while a separate policy defines processes for managing reclaimed areas.
The VTMS policy outlines requirements for managing vessel movements in the Gulf of Khambhat, addressing ownership, maintenance, and staffing needs. Furthermore, two rule sets for inland vessels will be established, targeting Categories A, B, and C, including boats under 10 meters. These regulations will ensure compliance with national standards while catering to Gujarat’s unique maritime challenges.
