The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Indonesia Coast Guard have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Maritime Safety and Security Cooperation for a three-year period. This renewal signifies a significant step towards enhancing comprehensive bilateral relations between the two countries. The initial MoU was signed in 2020, highlighting the shared vision of creating a safer, secure, and resilient Indo-Pacific region.
A delegation from the Indonesia Coast Guard, led by Vice Admiral Irvansyah, visited India from January 24 to January 28 for the 2nd High Level Meeting with the ICG. The meeting, led by Director General Paramesh Sivamani from the Indian Coast Guard, focused on strengthening operational-level interaction and capacity building in areas such as Maritime Search & Rescue, Pollution Response, and Maritime Law Enforcement. This meeting further solidified the professional relationship between the two Coast Guards, which dates back to ICG ships visiting Indonesia in 2002 for professional exchanges.
Both sides agreed to enhance mutual cooperation in line with the provisions of the MoU, emphasizing the sharing of best practices and continued professional exchanges. The Indian Coast Guard also highlighted that the ICG Ship Shaunak is currently on Overseas Deployment to Jakarta from January 27 to January 30 to strengthen ties with the Indonesia Coast Guard. This ongoing effort reflects the commitment of both governments to enhance cooperation in maritime safety and security.
