In a pivotal move to enhance maritime cooperation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the United Arab Emirates National Guard Command (UAE NGC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on Maritime Security and Safety Cooperation. This agreement was formalized during the 13th Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting in New Delhi, attended by key officials from both nations.
The MoU represents a significant advancement in ICG’s maritime diplomacy, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening institutional ties and promoting collaborative efforts in maritime safety and security. It aims to enhance professional linkages between the two Coast Guards, covering vital areas such as Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR), combating transnational maritime crimes, and Marine Pollution Response (MPR).
This agreement is the tenth of its kind with foreign Coast Guard agencies and aligns with the Indian government’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative, which promotes security and growth in the region. It is expected to bolster bilateral maritime cooperation and contribute to a safer maritime environment.
Overall, this landmark agreement underscores India’s dedication to fostering regional maritime collaboration, positioning the Indian Coast Guard as a reliable partner in enhancing collective maritime security throughout the Indian Ocean Region.
