Mumbai, Oct 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the natural partnership between India and the UK, highlighting its importance for global stability and economic advancement. In discussions with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Modi underscored that the foundation of their relationship is built on shared values, including democracy, freedom, and the rule of law.
During their talks, the leaders announced an agreement on military training cooperation, with Modi expressing a strong commitment to enhancing maritime security collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region. The discussions also focused on strengthening ties in trade, defense, security, and critical technology.
In a joint briefing, Starmer characterized the India-UK relationship as unique and special, stating that they are forging a modern partnership aimed at the future. He praised India’s remarkable growth story, reinforcing the significance of their collaboration.
Addressing global issues, Modi stated that India supports efforts to achieve peace through dialogue and diplomacy, particularly concerning the Ukraine conflict and the situation in Gaza. Starmer’s visit, which included a delegation of 125 prominent UK business leaders, follows the recent signing of a landmark free trade agreement expected to double bilateral trade by 2030.
