Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal’s recent visit to the Netherlands has established a foundation for a green and digital corridor linking the Port of Rotterdam with Indian ports. This initiative aims to facilitate the export of green hydrogen to Europe. The commerce ministry highlighted the significant potential for collaboration between Indian ports and Rotterdam in areas such as digitalization, green shipping, and logistics optimization to enhance bilateral trade.
During the visit, Barthwal engaged with Boudewijn Siemon, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam authority, discussing knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and sustainable port management practices. He emphasized the modernization of Indian ports as part of India’s Maritime Vision 2030, aimed at boosting port capacity and logistics efficiency.
Both parties expressed a desire to deepen ties through joint initiatives focusing on port digitalization, green shipping, and optimizing logistics. The collaboration envisions Rotterdam as a key gateway for exports, including green hydrogen and carriers like ammonia and methanol from India.
Additionally, Barthwal met Christophe Fouquet, CEO of ASML, exploring avenues for strengthening India-Netherlands cooperation in the semiconductor sector, furthering India’s goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub.
