The decision was revealed at a special reception at the IMO Headquarters, attended by Ministry Secretary T K Ramachandran and Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami.

The election for the 2025-26 biennium will occur later this year, following India’s recent re-election with the highest votes in December 2023. Ramachandran articulated India’s commitment to the principle of “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” highlighting the nation’s maritime strategy under Vision 2047 aimed at enhancing global maritime cooperation.
