The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sachet, an Offshore Patrol Vessel, has docked in Maputo, Mozambique, as part of India’s ongoing commitment to regional maritime cooperation under the SAGAR initiative (Security and Growth for All in the Region). During its visit, Sachet delivered 20 metric tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief supplies, including essential medical items, to local authorities, highlighting India’s support for Mozambique’s disaster management and public health efforts.
The visit also emphasizes the Indian Coast Guard’s expanding operational reach and its role as a stabilizing force in the Indian Ocean Region. During its stay, the ship’s crew will conduct joint exchanges and training with local maritime agencies, covering vital topics like Marine Pollution Response, Maritime Search and Rescue, and Maritime Law Enforcement. Activities will include onboard demonstrations of essential operations and friendly sports events to strengthen ties between the two nations.
In addition to professional development, the crew, along with National Cadet Corps cadets and Assam Rifles personnel, will engage in community outreach, supporting beach clean-up drives and marine awareness campaigns. This aligns with India’s Puneet Sagar Abhiyan initiative aimed at combating marine pollution and fostering ocean conservation, reinforcing India’s reputation as a reliable maritime partner in Africa.
