The Port of Antwerp-Bruges recently participated in a Belgian economic mission to India, highlighting the significance of India as a key trading partner. From March 3 to 7, the port’s delegation engaged in various events aimed at enhancing sustainable partnerships with India’s rapidly growing economy, projected to become the third-largest globally by 2030. India’s trade with the port grew by 10% last year, with import volumes increasing by over 22%, establishing its role as a vital partner for Antwerp-Bruges.
Recognizing India’s strengths in industrial capabilities, high-tech sectors, and renewable energy ambitions, the port is actively collaborating with Indian companies to support energy transition initiatives. As the chair of the Belgian Hydrogen Council, the port has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Green H2 India to accelerate the energy transition and exchange expertise in hydrogen technology and policy development.
The port has maintained a strong presence in India since opening its Mumbai office in 2006, fostering collaborations with local institutions such as the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority. Additionally, it organizes specialized training programs, exemplified by the establishment of the JNPA-Antwerp Port Training and Consultancy Foundation. Events like the “Excellence Through Sangam” gala further cement the relationship, promoting Belgium’s capabilities in innovation and sustainable growth while celebrating bilateral cooperation.
