India Prioritizes Safety of Seafarers in the Middle East

On Monday, India emphasized its commitment to the welfare of Indian seafarers as the conflict in the Gulf region continues. A senior official from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) assured that the safety and security of the Indian community in the area is a top priority. The MEA is actively monitoring the evolving situation and providing ongoing support to Indian crew members on vessels throughout the region.

During an interministerial briefing, Aseem Mahajan, Joint Secretary (Gulf), highlighted that Indian missions are in constant contact with seafarers, offering consular assistance and facilitating communication with their families in India. The government is also prioritizing the welfare of Indian students in Gulf countries, ensuring that their academic progress remains unaffected by the ongoing conflict. Regular outreach to parents and students is being conducted to address concerns related to examinations and assessments.

Additionally, a senior official from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways reported that all Indian seafarers operating in the Persian Gulf are safe, with no incidents reported in the past 24 hours. Currently, 18 Indian ships with 485 seafarers are secure, and maritime operations are running smoothly. India is maintaining close coordination among various ministries to ensure uninterrupted maritime operations and energy supply.
