SRINAGAR: The Indian government announced on Friday that fuel supplies remain stable, maritime operations are running smoothly, and substantial aid is being provided to Indian nationals in West Asia amid ongoing tensions related to the Strait of Hormuz. At a recent inter-ministerial briefing, officials from various ministries, including Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and External Affairs, discussed measures to ensure energy security and assist citizens abroad. They confirmed that refineries are operating at full capacity with ample petrol and diesel stocks, and no fuel shortages have been reported at retail outlets.
Domestic LPG production has increased by approximately 40% compared to pre-crisis levels, with no shortages noted at distributorships. Authorities observed a significant drop in panic bookings for LPG, indicating improved consumer confidence. Citizens are advised to avoid panic buying and rely on official updates. The government is prioritizing the supply of piped natural gas (PNG) for households and compressed natural gas (CNG) for transportation, ensuring full allocation to these sectors while regulating supplies to industrial users.
Indian seafarers in the Persian Gulf are reported safe, with no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels. The Ministry of External Affairs has been actively coordinating with various countries to emphasize de-escalation and safe navigation. Since late February, around 300,000 passengers have returned to India, and special operations continue to assist stranded individuals. The government has urged citizens to refrain from spreading rumors, avoid panic bookings, and consider alternative energy sources. Coordinated efforts across ministries are ongoing to maintain stability in supplies and ensure the safety of Indian nationals.
