India and Thailand recently enhanced their bilateral relationships through a strategic partnership, following extensive discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Thailand’s Paetongtarn Shinawatra at the government house in Bangkok. The talks covered various areas of cooperation, leading to the signing of key agreements that aim to strengthen the enduring friendship between the two nations.
One of the significant agreements involved the establishment of a strategic partnership between India and Thailand, showcasing their commitment to collaboration in digital technologies. Additionally, a partnership was formed for the development of the national maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Lothal, Gujarat, through cooperation between the Sagarmala Division of the Indian Ministry for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and the Ministry of Culture in Thailand Fine Arts.
Furthermore, agreements were signed between India National Small Industries Corporation Ltd. (NSIC) and Thailand’s Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) to foster cooperation in the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises sector. The discussions also highlighted the alignment of India’s “Act East” policy with Thailand’s “Act West,” creating opportunities for collaboration in tourism, culture, education, trade, investments, and business exchanges between the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of deepening the strategic partnership, especially in crucial sectors like defense, security, maritime security, and hydrography. During the discussions, he expressed solidarity with Thailand following a recent earthquake and reiterated India’s full support for Asean unity and centrality.Overall, the agreements signed between India and Thailand signify a significant step towards strengthening bilateral cooperation across various critical sectors.
