The Indian Navy’s INS Tabar responded to a distress call from the MT Yi Cheng 6, a merchant vessel flagged under Pulau, carrying 14 Indian crew members. The ship, en route from Kandla, India, to Shinas, Oman, experienced a major fire in its engine room, resulting in complete power failure.

Upon receiving the emergency alert, INS Tabar dispatched a firefighting team, which included 13 naval personnel and five crew members, to assist the stricken vessel. Firefighting equipment was deployed via INS Tabar’s boat and helicopter.

The Indian Navy confirmed the operation through a social media statement detailing the incident. The crew on the MT Yi Cheng 6, all of Indian origin, were in critical need of help following the fire.

This incident highlights the Indian Navy’s commitment to conducting rescue missions in its operational area. Recently, they also coordinated with the Coast Guard to rescue 18 crew members from another vessel, the MV Wan Hai 503, which had faced a major fire due to an internal explosion.
