Eight Indian seafarers, held in Iran since December, have finally returned home after enduring a distressing ordeal exacerbated by the outbreak of war in West Asia. The crew was aboard the MT Valiant Roar, seized by Iranian authorities on December 8, under allegations of fuel smuggling, which the vessel operator denied.

Initially, eight crew members returned home on February 10, but the remaining group faced delays in their release amid rising regional tensions and military activities. Captain Vijay Kumar recounted how their hope for escape turned into renewed anxiety as conflict escalated, with some members detained in jail while others were confined to their vessel.

On March 3, the Indian embassy evacuated the crew and provided accommodation in Tehran, but fear and uncertainty persisted as missile strikes around their hotel continued. Eventually, the seafarers opted for a land route to safety, reaching Armenia on March 27, followed by flights back to Mumbai.

While relief accompanies their homecoming, the emotional toll remains heavy. Crew member Masood Alam had to postpone his wedding due to the crisis, highlighting the lasting impact of their detention on personal lives and wellbeing.
