Kandla Port, located in India, is a key port near international trade routes in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. With an impressive handling capacity of 132 million tons of freight last year, the port’s current freight profile is dominated by liquid cargo, accounting for 50-55% of total cargo, followed by dry bulk and break bulk at 40-45%, and containerized freight at 5%. This diversity in cargo handling showcases the port’s ability to handle various raw materials such as crude oil, chemicals, and coal.
To enhance container handling capabilities, several infrastructure projects are underway at Kandla Port. The development of a state-of-the-art container terminal at Tuna Tekra by DP World will increase the port’s annual tonnage handling capacity by 32 million tons. These advancements aim to position Kandla Port as a crucial hub for India’s trade by catering to growing demands and evolving trade patterns.
In preparation for the energy transition and the increasing demand for green fuels, Kandla Port is focusing on becoming a leader in green energy. Collaborations with major players in the industry, development of green hydrogen production facilities, and infrastructure compatible with green fuels demonstrate the port’s commitment to sustainable practices. By aligning with international standards for green corridors, Kandla Port aims to become a significant center for green fuels, facilitating a low-carbon future in maritime trade.
