In a significant development for India’s maritime sector, the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive technological advancements. This collaboration aims to promote digitalisation, automation, cybersecurity, and research and development within the maritime industry. By leveraging C-DAC’s expertise in high-performance computing, cybersecurity, blockchain, and e-governance, the partnership seeks to modernise maritime processes and address industry challenges. The ultimate goal is to establish India as a globally recognised and progressive maritime administration.
The MoU between DGS and C-DAC also focuses on accelerating the digitalisation and automation of maritime processes. Through the implementation of automated systems, operational efficiency is expected to improve significantly, reducing human error and enhancing productivity. Additionally, the collaboration will prioritize maritime data analytics and predictive modelling to gain insights into trends, improve decision-making, and optimize operations. This approach aims to create a more sustainable and secure maritime ecosystem by forecasting risks and ensuring effective resource management.
Cybersecurity is a crucial aspect of the partnership, given the increasing reliance on digital technologies in the maritime industry. The collaboration aims to strengthen cybersecurity measures for maritime Internet of Things (IoT) systems and safeguard critical data from cyber threats. Furthermore, the MoU emphasizes advancements in maritime education and training to equip industry professionals with the necessary skills for navigating technological changes. By fostering continuous learning and innovation, the partnership aims to build a highly skilled workforce capable of driving the sector’s digital transformation and ensuring long-term success and resilience.
