Space-tech startup PierSight has successfully raised additional capital in a seed extension round, bringing its total funding to $8 million. New investors include CE-Ventures, Sustainable Ocean Alliance, and notable individuals like Nandan Reddy, Natasha Malpani Oswal, and Sahil Lavingia. The investment will support the development of a satellite constellation that combines Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Automatic Identification System (AIS) for continuous maritime intelligence.

Based in Ahmedabad, PierSight aims to tackle issues like illegal fishing, marine pollution, and insurance fraud while monitoring Exclusive Economic Zones and enhancing port operations. Its first commercial SAR+AIS satellite is set to launch in mid-2026, following the demonstration satellite Varuna Mission, scheduled for December 2024.

Founded by ex-ISRO scientist Gaurav Seth and former National Instruments engineer Vinit Bansal, PierSight focuses on providing all-weather visibility into maritime activities through advanced satellite technology. Seth emphasized the advantages of satellites over traditional surveillance methods, noting their ability to cover vast areas efficiently.

In addition to satellite development, PierSight is creating a maritime analytics platform, MATSYA, and testing a drone-borne SAR system, both expected to be commercially available by late 2025.
