India’s SDHI Teams Up with Royal IHC for Offshore Vessel Construction

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI), India’s leading shipbuilding firm, has signed an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with European offshore vessel leader Royal IHC. Together, they will leverage their combined expertise to design, build, and retrofit offshore oil and gas vessels at SDHI’s facility in Pipavav Port, Gujarat. The agreement also includes Alar Infrastructure, Royal IHC’s Indian representative.

This collaboration aims to develop Offshore Construction Vessels, Pipe Laying Vessels, and Multi-Purpose Offshore Support Vessels, supporting the Indian government’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. By enhancing indigenous shipbuilding capabilities, the partnership seeks to improve cost competitiveness in the sector.

Vivek Merchant, Director of SDHI, expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting the growing demand for offshore vessels in both oil and gas and renewable energy markets. He emphasized that the partnership will position SDHI to offer world-class solutions.

Royal IHC CEO Derk te Bokkel highlighted the significance of this agreement in strengthening their footprint in Asia, asserting that, together with SDHI, they can meet the evolving demands of the global energy market. With the largest dry dock in India, SDHI is well-equipped to support the country’s maritime ambitions.
