Mitsui E&S Co., Ltd., based in Tokyo, and its affiliate, TGE Marine Gas Engineering GmbH from Bonn, Germany, are exploring potential collaborations to supply marine engines to Indian shipyards, a key area for India’s shipbuilding ambitions. A high-level delegation from both companies is currently visiting India to assess the local shipbuilding landscape and identify opportunities for engagement.
Mitsui E&S is recognized for its production of high-value ship equipment, including engines and automated gantry cranes, holding a dominant 90% market share in Japan for gantry cranes. TGE Marine Gas Engineering specializes in engineering services for gas carriers and offshore units, making them a significant player in the marine engineering sector.
The visiting delegation includes notable figures such as Yusuke Sakimoto, Executive Officer, and Nielsen Jakob, Sales Director from TGE Marine. They have met with officials from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, as well as the Shipyards Association of India, to discuss collaboration feasibility and engine requirements in India. Their itinerary includes visits to Cochin Shipyard and Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd.
This initiative underscores the growing interest in enhancing India’s shipbuilding capabilities, aiming to bolster the local industry through strategic partnerships with established international firms.
