The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s largest container port, has achieved a significant milestone in sustainability by transitioning its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to 100% green energy. Effective September 1, 2025, the SEZ will procure 6.0 MW of grid-connected wind power under a cost-effective agreement at Rs. 3.12/KWH. Chairperson Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh emphasized that this initiative aligns sustainability with growth, aiming to create a responsible and future-ready industrial ecosystem.
The shift to renewable energy not only minimizes environmental impact but also provides competitive advantages for industries within the SEZ. JNPA’s commitment to this green transition strengthens its role in advancing India’s sustainable port-led industrial development.
Since its inception in August 2021, the JNPA SEZ had been sourcing electricity from conventional sources at Rs. 6.30/KWH. This transition marks an important environmental and economic milestone, reducing costs while promoting greener operations. By setting this benchmark, JNPA SEZ reinforces its dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainable development, inspiring other economic zones across India.
This achievement highlights JNPA’s efforts in implementing impactful green initiatives and showcases its leadership in fostering a sustainable future for the port and logistics sector.
