Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) has secured a contract to supply the power systems for eight new vessels being constructed by Wilson at Udupi Cochin Shipyard in India. The scope of the project includes designing and delivering a comprehensive power system for each vessel, encompassing main generators, propulsion motors, thruster motors, switchboards, control systems, and transformers. Delivery of NES equipment is scheduled between the second quarter of 2026 and the second quarter of 2028.

This initiative by NES and its HAV Group sister companies focuses on emission reduction solutions for shortsea transport. Leveraging experience from ferry and offshore projects, NES will apply energy optimization techniques to enhance the efficiency of Wilson’s dry cargo vessels. The vessels, with a capacity of 6,300 dwt, are based on a design by Conoship International and prioritize flexibility and energy efficiency. Optimized hull lines aim to minimize fuel consumption, complemented by an advanced energy system from NES. Additionally, the vessels have the option to install VentoFoil units for further fuel reduction, serving Wilson’s fleet in European coastal waters.

Udupi Cochin Shipyard will oversee the construction of the eight dry cargo vessels, integrating innovative technology from NES to enhance their performance and environmental sustainability. The partnership between NES and Wilson signifies a significant step towards improving the efficiency and eco-friendliness of shortsea transport. These new vessels are set to join Wilson’s fleet, contributing to the transportation of general cargo in European coastal regions. The collaboration highlights NES’s commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for the maritime industry while reducing emissions and enhancing operational efficiency.
