Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has achieved a significant sustainability milestone by becoming the second major port in India to successfully implement a Shore-to-Ship Power Supply System, which provides full-load power to vessels docked at the port. This groundbreaking operation was showcased at the CB-1 berth, where the MV APJ INDRANI, owned by the historic Apeejay Shipping, was efficiently connected to the shore power facility. This integration highlights the port’s capability to support vessels equipped with shore power systems, leading to substantial reductions in emissions while ships are berthed.
The introduction of shore power at Paradip Port promotes cleaner operations by minimizing fuel consumption, noise pollution, and emissions from auxiliary engines. This initiative enhances the connection between future-ready ports and environmentally compliant vessels, aligning Indian ports with international decarbonization efforts.
Shri P. L. Haranadh, Chairman of the Paradip Port Authority, emphasized the effectiveness and safety of the advanced installation, which was validated through live monitoring systems. He reiterated PPA’s commitment to sustainable and energy-efficient port operations. The authority also recognized the essential contributions of its Electrical and Mechanical Engineering teams in realizing this project, marking a pivotal step toward pollution-free maritime operations.
With this advancement, Paradip Port solidifies its role as a leader in India’s transition to greener ports, supporting the shipping industry’s shift toward more sustainable practices.
