Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called on the Central Government to establish a permanent maritime development center in Mumbai. During a review meeting for India Maritime Week 2025, scheduled to take place at the NESCO Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, from October 27 to 31, Fadnavis emphasized that this initiative would enhance Maharashtra’s global stature and position India Maritime Week as a premier maritime event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to participate in the event, which will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on October 27. The review meeting also included Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, and other senior officials, all discussing the significant potential of Mumbai as an economic hub.

Fadnavis highlighted that India Maritime Week 2025 would create substantial opportunities for maritime growth at both state and national levels. He pointed to recent developments such as a new shipbuilding policy and expansions at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority as indicators of Maharashtra’s evolving maritime landscape. Sonowal echoed this sentiment, noting that Mumbai offers considerable investment prospects and will benefit domestic industries.

The event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and the Indian Ports Association, expecting participation from over 100 countries, thousands of delegates, and around 500 exhibitors, with an anticipated attendance of approximately 100,000 people.
