The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has introduced PM GatiShakti–Offshore, an innovative digital platform aimed at enhancing the planning and management of offshore projects, including wind farms and coastal infrastructure development. This platform extends the national PM GatiShakti Programme by offering a unified geospatial interface that amalgamates crucial datasets from various central ministries.

The integration of these datasets promotes data-driven decision-making, leading to improved efficiency, transparency, and environmental stewardship in offshore project planning. DPIIT emphasizes that this initiative is vital for strengthening India’s Blue Economy and fostering a transition to green energy and sustainable coastal development.

For instance, the platform allows seamless coordination among the Ministries of Power, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Environment, and Telecommunications for optimizing offshore transmission corridors. It can assess conditions for subsea cable links, like the proposed High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) connection to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, while considering ecological factors such as coral reefs and turtle nesting sites to protect sensitive marine areas.

DPIIT stated that PM GatiShakti–Offshore signifies a transformative approach to comprehensive offshore infrastructure development, blending geospatial intelligence with inter-ministerial collaboration to promote sustainable growth while safeguarding marine ecosystems.
