MP Captain Brijesh Chowta Proposes Rani Abbakka Maritime University
New Delhi: Captain Brijesh Chowta, the MP for Dakshina Kannada, recently met with T K Ramachandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports and Shipping, to advocate for the establishment of a Maritime University in Mangalore, Karnataka. He proposed naming the institution after Rani Abbakka, a historic warrior queen known for her defense of Bharat’s coasts.
Chowta emphasized that the Rani Abbakka Maritime University would honor this national icon while preparing a skilled workforce in marine engineering, maritime law, and related fields. He noted that the university aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision, aiming to position India as a global maritime hub.
Highlighting Mangaluru’s geographical advantages and historical significance, Chowta outlined the university’s potential programs, including B.Tech, B.Sc, and MBA courses, tailored to support India’s maritime advancement. He also called for the New Mangalore Port Authority to participate in developing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and suggested forming an expert committee to guide the university’s framework.
Chowta assured full cooperation with local and state authorities to drive this initiative forward, reinforcing Mangaluru’s suitability for such a venture.
