Samsung Heavy Industries has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India’s Swan Defence and Heavy Industries to collaborate in shipbuilding and offshore engineering. This partnership aims to enhance cooperation in engineering, procurement, and project management.
Swan Defence is India’s largest dry dock operator, specializing in constructing very large crude carriers (VLCCs), which adds significant infrastructure support to the collaboration. Samsung intends to leverage this alliance to strengthen its presence in the Indian market, aligned with its broader strategy for global expansion.
This move coincides with substantial investments by the Indian government in the maritime sector, with plans to allocate around ₹1.82 lakh crore for shipbuilding and port infrastructure. This investment positions India as a burgeoning force in global maritime endeavors.
The alliance with Swan Defence follows Samsung’s recent partnership with the US-based Vigor Marine Group, reflecting its continuous efforts to enhance its international operations. This strategic collaboration marks a significant step in Samsung’s mission to broaden its global network.
