Udupi Cochin Shipyard, a subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Ltd, recently launched a series of six 3800 TDW general cargo vessels for Norwegian firm Wilson ASA. The vessel was christened by Martine Aamdal Bottheim, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Royal Norwegian Embassy, alongside Wilson ASA’s Chief Financial Officer Einar Tornes and Cochin Shipyard’s Chairman and MD Madhu S Nair.
Wilson ASA, based in Bergen, Norway, is a prominent short sea fleet operator in Europe, transporting about 15 million tonnes of dry cargo across the continent. The company operates a fleet of approximately 130 vessels ranging from 1500 to 8500 DWT. Wilson ASA has placed a follow-on order for 8 more vessels, adding to the 6 already launched, with order placements made in June and September.
Cochin Shipyard reports that the ongoing projects for Wilson ASA are progressing at various stages of construction. The completion of the initial six vessels marks an important milestone in the partnership between the two companies.
