Udupi Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (UCSL), a subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Ltd., has launched the first of three high-performance tugs with a bollard pull of 70 tonnes for Ocean Sparkle Ltd., a member of the Adani Ports and SEZ Group. The launch occurred at UCSL’s facility in Udupi, attended by MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, who praised the shipyard’s contributions to India’s self-reliance in shipbuilding and the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.

Designed by Canada’s Robert Allan Ltd., the tug measures 33 meters and features twin 1,838 kW engines along with 2.7-meter Niigata IHI propellers, providing outstanding maneuverability and towing capability. UCSL is also building eight additional tugs for Ocean Sparkle and has recently delivered two 70-tonne bollard pull tugs to Polestar Maritime in 2024.
