Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced at the Maritime Summit 2025 that the Vadhavan Port project will transform Maharashtra and India into a maritime superpower. He emphasized that the port will serve as a focal point for economic revolution, predicting it will rank among the world’s top ten ports upon completion. Fadnavis highlighted the integration of an “offshore airport” to enhance multimodal connectivity through waterways, railways, roads, and air routes, supported by significant central government investment under the Sagarmala project.
Additionally, Fadnavis discussed plans to bolster the railway network connecting Vadhavan Port, improving multi-modal cargo handling. He envisioned Maharashtra as a leader in shipbuilding and water transport, particularly in the Mumbai-Navi Mumbai area. The Chief Minister pointed out that the Samruddhi Highway has already facilitated rapid connectivity to the JNPT port for multiple districts, cutting travel time from days to under ten hours. Vadhavan Port will soon have direct access to this highway, linking it to 24 districts.
Fadnavis reiterated Maharashtra’s dedication to a robust maritime vision, aligned with the government’s “India Maritime Vision 2030” and “Amritkal Maritime Vision 2047.” He pledged to implement the summit’s recommendations into policy, stating the intent to enhance ports’ capacity, efficiency, and connectivity to strengthen India’s global supply chain.
