Vadhvan Port Project Ltd. has issued a tender for coastal rehabilitation and protection works valued at Rs 1,700 crore for the proposed mega port in Vadhvan, Maharashtra. Three companies, ITD Cementation India Ltd., Navayuga Engineering Co. Ltd., and MAN Infraconstruction Ltd., have submitted bids for the project. Unmesh Wagh, chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and Vadhvan Port Project Ltd., expressed satisfaction with the level of competition among the bidders, noting their experience in the shipbuilding industry.

The new port, situated on 1,448 hectares of reclaimed land, is expected to become India’s largest in terms of capacity once fully operational, with an estimated cost of Rs 76,220 crore. A significant portion of the land will be developed near the coast to support offshore projects such as reclamation and breakwater construction. This coastal area will also serve as a hub for future projects and a shipyard for activities like container storage, tank farm construction, and railway line installation.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and Maharashtra Maritime Board jointly established Vadhvan Port Project Ltd. to develop the new deep-water port. The project requires an investment of Rs 38,976 crore for basic infrastructure needs, including dredging, rehabilitation, breakwaters, access trestles, and rail and road connectivity. The remaining project costs will be covered through partnerships with private operators handling various port terminals, contributing a total of Rs 37,244 crore. Once completed, Vadhvan port will have a cargo handling capacity of 298 million tonnes, including 23.5 million TEUs.

As MAN, Navayuga, and ITD Cementation vie for the Vadhvan port project, it signifies the progress in the development of this vital infrastructure, with significant investments and partnerships driving its growth.
