VISAKHAPATNAM: Farmers from Vangali village in Sabbavaram mandal, Anakapalli district, protested outside the Indian Maritime University on Friday, demanding jobs and additional compensation for the land they provided for the university’s establishment.

Protest leaders claimed that the university management, in the presence of MLA Panchakarla Ramesh Babu, had promised jobs to the farmers but later reneged on this commitment, hiring outsiders instead. They expressed frustration over repeated attempts to address the issue with both the MLA and university officials, leading to their ongoing protest, which has included cooking at the protest site for the past five days.

University officials stated that while they have assured the farmers that future job vacancies would be filled by them, the protest continues. The farmers are specifically seeking employment opportunities in housekeeping, gardening, and security roles. The situation remains tense as the farmers vow to escalate their agitation if their demands are not met.
