A Madurai resident has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking to invalidate the common entrance test conducted by the Indian Maritime University, Chennai for admissions to the academic year 2024-25. M Sathish Kumar, on behalf of his minor son S Sidharth, claimed that the entire examination process, from notification to the declaration of the rank list, was chaotic and lacked clarity. Justice Anita Sumanth admitted the plea and directed the university to respond, adjourning the hearing.

The petitioner argued that the advertisement for the exam notification was misleading and ambiguous, with no clear indication of whether the exam was for all maritime institutions in the country or just the Indian Maritime University in Chennai. The lack of information on the cut-off marks, rank list preparation, and exam mode added to the confusion, leading to the request for the exam to be declared null and void.
