VOC Port in Tuticorin was recognized as the ‘Green Visionary’ at the India Maritime Week 2025, held from October 27 to 31 in Mumbai, after securing investment commitments totaling ₹90,936 crore. The award highlights the port’s commitment to sustainable practices and its ongoing green initiatives.
The VO Chidambaranar Port Authority signed 29 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with various stakeholders focused on port modernization, shipbuilding, information technology, and sustainability. Notably, three significant agreements in the green energy sector account for over ₹45,400 crore in investments. One of these agreements is with Green Infra Renewable Energy Farms Pvt Ltd, part of the Sembcorp group, for a common storage facility for green ammonia and hydrogen derivatives, involving ₹25,400 crore.
Additionally, an MoU with ACME Green Hydrogen and Chemicals Pvt Ltd for a 1,200 MTPD Green Ammonia Project is valued at ₹15,000 crore, while another agreement with CGS Energy Private Limited pertains to a 300 TPD Green Ammonia production facility, worth ₹5,000 crore. These projects aim to enhance the port’s position as a leading Green Hydrogen Hub in southern India.
Chairperson Susanta Kumar Purohit expressed optimism about the multiple MoUs, anticipating significant investment inflows and job creation in the region.
