In a remarkable achievement, the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has successfully berthed a Trans-Pacific mother vessel with an unprecedented capacity of 15,486 TEUs. This surpasses the previous record of 15,256 TEUs set by the MSC Monica Christina in May 2024, marking a significant milestone for the port.
This accomplishment underlines VPA’s growing reputation as a major gateway on India’s eastern coast, demonstrating its capacity for large-scale container operations. The arrival of this high-capacity vessel represents a significant enhancement in cargo handling infrastructure and VPA’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence and trade facilitation.
VPA Chairman praised the collaborative efforts of marine and terminal teams that made the vessel’s smooth berthing possible. He noted that this achievement aligns with VPA’s vision to become the go-to port for global shipping lines by enhancing its capacity, connectivity, and competitiveness.
As VPA continues to strengthen India’s maritime logistics, it aims to attract more mother vessels, significantly contributing to the nation’s blue economy and promoting EXIM growth. This milestone reinforces VPA’s pivotal role in the region’s logistics landscape.
