Ashdod Port Company has initiated a significant infrastructure development plan worth approximately NIS 1.5 billion ($458 million) to enhance efficiency, capacity, and sustainability in its operations. This comprehensive investment program consists of various modernization projects aimed at transforming existing quays into specialized terminals tailored for different cargo types, streamlining cargo handling, and improving turnaround times.
Key elements of the plan include acquiring 12 electric rubber-tyred gantry (ERTG) cranes, with an overall goal of 34 by 2030. The initiative also involves constructing a dedicated electrical substation and expanding the container yard behind Quay 21 to add 4,000 containers. Along with this, advanced jib cranes will be installed at Quays 7 and 9, facilitating general cargo and bulk handling for vessels up to 100,000 tonnes.
Additionally, the port is moving forward with the second phase of the Quay 21 development project, which encompasses the new container storage yard, procurement of the ERTG cranes, and enhancements to the electrical infrastructure, including a new transformation station.
Through these modernization efforts, Ashdod Port aims to bolster its competitiveness and support sustainable operations, preparing for future trade demands with improved efficiency.
