UK shipowner Union Maritime has introduced a new lease financing program called SeaBreeze, aimed at promoting the adoption of wind-assisted propulsion systems in the maritime industry. This initiative is designed to provide 100% financing, making sustainable technologies more accessible for shipowners striving to meet evolving emissions targets.
The SeaBreeze program will collaborate with manufacturers of wind-assisted propulsion systems to create customized lease financing solutions for acquiring and deploying these technologies. This initiative is set to launch in late 2025 and seeks to address the challenges posed by limited traditional bank financing for wind technology equipment.
Guy Blunden, head of transactions and strategy at Union Maritime, emphasized the market’s need for innovative financing solutions, stating, “We are uniquely positioned to fill that gap. We look forward to sharing more as the project progresses.” This initiative reflects a growing commitment within the maritime sector to embrace sustainable practices and reduce emissions through advanced technologies.
