Gasum, an energy company, has partnered with DNV to ensure the accuracy of its FuelEU Maritime pooling service. DNV, a leading classification society in the maritime industry, will use its Emissions Connect solution to gather and validate emissions data from Gasum’s vessels. This collaboration aims to verify pool compliance at the end of the year, in line with the new requirements set by the FuelEU Maritime regulation.
To comply with the increasing regulatory pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Gasum’s pooling service offers a solution for shipping companies to save on compliance costs. The service allows for the pooling of emission reductions between vessels, enabling over-compliant vessels to compensate for under-compliant ones. Gasum manages the pool, supplies ultra-low emission bio-LNG, and offers over-compliance to shipping companies with conventional fuel vessels, making compliance easier for all parties involved.
Gasum’s strategic goal is to offer 7 TWh of renewable gas, including biomethane and e-methane, annually to its customers by 2027. Liquefied biomethane, or bio-LNG, is a fully renewable and environmentally friendly fuel with significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels. By utilizing biogas in various applications, Gasum aims to contribute to a more sustainable future on land and at sea. The company’s collaboration with DNV underscores its commitment to providing trusted solutions for a cleaner maritime industry.
