RINA has entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with South Korea’s Hanwha Group to advance battery-hybrid propulsion systems in the maritime industry. This partnership includes Hanwha affiliates—Hanwha Power Systems, Hanwha Aerospace, and Hanwha Engine—focusing on developing hybrid solutions for new vessels and retrofits, particularly in the roll-on/roll-off ferry sector.

The collaboration aims to expedite the shift toward lower-emission vessels by leveraging Hanwha’s expertise in propulsion and energy systems alongside RINA’s certification and regulatory skills. Hanwha Power Systems will take the lead in vessel design and system integration, while Hanwha Aerospace will supply energy storage systems, and Hanwha Engine will provide propulsion technologies. RINA will support the initiative through classification, certification, and market trend analysis in the ferry segment.
