As battery technology rapidly advances, the maritime industry is increasingly adopting hybrid and electric solutions. Fleetzero, a company specializing in modular propulsion systems, has partnered with Glosten to design what is anticipated to be the world’s longest-range hybrid electric vessel.
Currently, Glosten is collaborating with Fleetzero on retrofitting a Lightering Support Vessel owned by AET. This vessel will be equipped with a plug-in hybrid-electric propulsion system, allowing it to operate primarily on battery power upon completion. “This vessel will be a major milestone for the entire industry,” stated Steven Henderson, CEO of Fleetzero. He emphasized that the partnership with Glosten highlights the potential for cleaner and more efficient maritime operations.
Morgan Fanberg, CEO and President of Glosten, expressed enthusiasm for the project, calling it a significant step toward the future of marine technology. The design phase is already in progress, with detailed engineering set to follow in the coming months. Construction of the vessel is expected to commence in mid-2026, marking a pivotal moment in maritime innovation.
