Cyient, a multinational engineering firm, has joined forces with Norwegian green energy startup GreenH and German investment house Luxcara to develop a cutting-edge green hydrogen facility in Bodø, Norway. This facility, located at Langstranda, will serve as Norway’s first dedicated green hydrogen supply hub for maritime transport, providing clean fuel to ferry fleets and heavy transport operators in the Arctic Circle port town. The project is part of Norway’s broader energy transition efforts and aims to reduce maritime sector emissions, a significant contributor to global greenhouse gases.

GreenH, the Norwegian clean energy company leading the project, specializes in building hydrogen infrastructure powered by renewable sources like wind and hydro. With support from Luxcara, a clean energy asset manager, the Bodø hydrogen project aligns with national climate goals and international decarbonization targets for the maritime industry. Cyient’s role in the project involves providing comprehensive engineering services, including owner’s engineering support and detailed design of the hydrogen plant, to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.

The collaboration between Cyient, GreenH, and Luxcara represents a growing trend in cross-border partnerships focused on clean energy solutions. By anchoring production and refueling facilities within the port city itself, the Bodø project aims to overcome logistical challenges associated with hydrogen transportation and storage. This initiative underscores the immediate need for sustainable energy solutions and highlights the potential for hydrogen fuel systems to drive decarbonization efforts in challenging sectors like maritime transport. Through strategic partnerships and technical expertise, projects like the Bodø facility demonstrate the feasibility of transitioning to a greener energy mix to combat climate change.
